However, the woman had a narrow escape ( 死里逃生 ) when a crematorium worker saw her breathing while being dressed for the fire. You Guoying, 47, who had suffered a brain haemorrhage , wound up in the Taizhou city crematorium after family members convinced an ambulance driver that she was dead. Ms You's daughter, Wei Zhen , was later quoted by China Central Television as saying her father decided to send the woman to the crematorium because the family could not afford any further medical fees. "We have no other way. We don't have the medical fees. We have no money," Ms Wei told the state-run station. "As we dressed her in the crematorium, we were suffering great pain and hesitated when we found my mother was still moving," she said. Crematorium staff called police and relevant government authorities, and gave money to the family so Ms You could be readmitted to hospital. However, when contacted by the South China Morning Post , an emotional Ms Wei denied her family was aware Ms You was alive when they sent her to the crematorium. "She is my mother. Do you think we could really bear to do that?" she said. "We used up all the money we had borrowed and had no way to borrow more." Ms Wei refused to reveal what was discussed with the ambulance driver. The family decided to check Ms You out of hospital only three days after her admission on September 24. According to Ms Wei, the family borrowed 22,000 yuan from relatives which was used to pay for medical treatment over the three days. The hospital charged 5,580 yuan per day for treating Ms You. "We really couldn't get any more [money]," she said. Ms Wei said her parents were garbage collectors in Taizhou and s he and her husband each earned about 500 yuan per month working in a smelter. But even after three days of treatment, there was still several thousand yuan in Ms You's hospital account. It is not clear why the family checked the woman out while there was still money in her account, but in the past, families have expressed fears that they could not claim dead relatives' bodies （认领尸体） without settling their hospital bills. Ms You was unconscious but in a stable condition yesterday afternoon and her treatment was being funded by public donations. The incident triggered criticism in online forums about the lack of medical insurance for rural people, and attracted a flood of donations. By yesterday, the family had received more than 50,000 yuan from the public.
