学习笔记 2005-10-22 今天学了两个成语：out of the thin air无中生有 bite the bullet 咬紧牙关 Bite the bullet，咬住子弹，这一短语究竟是什么意思，它又是怎么来的呢？ Bite the bullet的意思是“忍受困难或勉为其难去做某事”。它最早出现在1891年，当时的拼法是bite on the bullet，这个短语的起源与外科手术有关，在麻醉药尚未出现的年代，医护人员在为病人动手术时会递给他们一些东西（比如皮带，如果在战场上就是子弹了），让其咬住，用这种办法缓解手术过程中的疼痛。 例如：I'd really like to go to the beach today, but I had better bite the bullet and stay home to study for tomorrow's final exam.（我今天真想到海滩玩，不过还是要勉为其难留在家里，为了明天的期末考试温书。） The president asked the board to bite the bullet to the crisis. （董事长让董事会咬紧牙关顶住这场危机。） （中国日报网站译） bluejudy 发表于 23:19 | 引用_0 | 编辑 | 评论 发表评论
