lantian 痴人说梦 首页 图片 (6) 文本 (24) 2004-04-26 22:01 一 -[文本] Where there is a will, there is a way. 有志者,事竟成。 lantian 发表于 22:01 | 阅读全文 | 评论(0) | 引用Trackback(0) | 编辑 2004-04-23 22:04 Work -[文本] Anonymous It is physically impossible for a well-educated, intellectual, or brave man to make money the chief object of his thoughts; as physically impossible as it is for him to make his dinner the principal object of them. All healthy people like their dinner, but their dinner is not the main object of their lives. So all healthy-minded people like making money--ought to like it and to enjoy the sensation of winning it; but the main object of their lives is not money; it is something better than money. A good soldier, for instance, mainly wishes to do his fighting well. He is glad of his pay-very properly so, and justly grumbles when you keep him ten months without it; still, his main notion of life is to win battles, not to be paid for winning them. So of doctors. They like fees no doubt--ought to like them; yet if they are brave and well educated, the entire object of their lives is not fees. They, on the whole, desire to cure the sick, and--if they are good doctors, and the choice were fairly put to them----would rather cure their patient and lose their fee than kill him and get it. And so with all other brave and rightly trained men; their work is first, their fee second, very important always, but still second. But in every nation, there is a vast class of people who are cowardly, and more or less stupid. And with these people, just as certainly the fee is first and the work second, as with brave people the work is first and the fee second. And this is no small distinction. It is the whole distinction. It is the whole distinction in a man. You cannot serve two masters; you must serve one or the other. If your work is first with you, and your fee second, work is your master. Observe, then, all wise work is mainly threefold in character. It is honest, useful, and cheerful. I hardly know anything more strange than that you recognize honesty in play, and do not in work. In your lightest games you have always someone to see what you call "fair play". In boxing you must hit fair; in racing, start fair. Your watchword is fair play; your hatred, foul play. Did it ever strike you that you wanted another watchword also, fair work, and another hatred also, foul work? Notes:

  1. physically impossible: 不可能的,违反自然规律的
  2. grumble: 抱怨、发牢骚
  3. threefold:(n.)三倍、三重性 4.watchword :(n.)标语、口号、格言 5.hatred: (n.) 憎恨、仇恨
  4. foul: (a.)肮脏的、污秽的 lantian 发表于 22:04 | 阅读全文 | 评论(0) | 引用Trackback(0) | 编辑 2004-04-22 19:03 Bridge over Troubled Water -[文本] When you' re weary feeling small When tears are in your eyes I'll dry them all I'm on your side oh when times get rough And friends just can't be found Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down When you re down and out When you re on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you ooh I'll take your part oh when darkness comes And pain is all around Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Brief instrumental interlude Sail on silver girl Sail on by Your time has come to shine All your dreams are on their way See how they shine Oh if you need a friend I'm sailing right behind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind lantian 发表于 19:03 | 阅读全文 | 评论(0) | 引用Trackback(0) | 编辑 2004-04-21 19:11 Everything I Do (I Do It for You) -[文本] Look into my eyes You will see what you mean to me Search your heart search your soul And when you find me there you'll search no more Don't tell me it's not worth trying for You can't tell me it's not worth dying for You know it's true Everything I do I do it for you Look into your heart You will find there's nothing there to hide Take me as I am take my life I would give it all I would sacrify Don't tell me it's not worth fighting for I can't help it there's nothing I want more There's no love Like your love And no other Could give more love There's no one Unless you're there All the time all the way Ah you can't tell me it's not worth trying for I can't help it there's nothing I want more Yeah I would fight for you I'd lie for you Walk the wire for you Yeah I'd die for you Ah lantian 发表于 19:11 | 阅读全文 | 评论(0) | 引用Trackback(0) | 编辑 2004-04-20 19:08 Eternal Flame -[文本] Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling do you feel my heart beating, do you understand do you feel the same, am I only dreaming is this burning an eternal flame.
